Dropping the Pounds the Smart Way

Most of us are familiar with how easy it is to gain weight and how difficult it is to loose it. Romero Family Medicine wants to help you loose weight and feel better about yourself. We have recommendations as to how you can do this effectively by establishing a life long habit of eating healthier and staying active.

According to Becky Duffett on her article 'How to Lose Weight Fast (the Healthy Way),' the following are essential factors when it comes to weight loss success:

1- Do not expect to lose 10lbs. in one week, instead be more realistic by counting on dropping 2-3 lbs. per week. Having this mentality will keep you from feeling less discouraged and more accomplished.

2- Keep track of the amount of daily calories consumed. Decrease the number by 500-750 calories per day. Monitoring your energy and levels of activity will help you determine how many calories you should consume, provides personalized guidance according to the information that you provide.

3- Consume less salt, less sugar, less alcohol and more water, fruits and vegetables.

4- Try to stay as physically active as possible. Not everybody likes to run, visit the gym or swim, but there is something for everyone when it comes to burning those calories. How about a walk in the park, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or biking to a friend's house instead of driving?

5- Plan meals in advance to avoid eating calorie heavy meals. Know which recipes you will cook throughout the week and have the necessary ingredients handy. Don't fall off the wagon when eating out, try to control your portions and pick wisely.
